As one of NYC’s most trusted commercial construction firms for over four decades, we stand ready to help your building get up to code in time to meet the looming sprinkler installation deadline.

Local Law 26/04 Fire Sprinkler Deadline is Fast Approaching: PREPARE TODAY!

New York City is home to iconic skyscrapers that have painted the skyline for decades. When originally constructed, most of these beloved buildings were not equipped with fire safety systems that have become common in modern construction.

Following 9/11 it was determined that the fire safety measures for NYC buildings were inadequate. Subsequently, the World Trade Center Code Task Force was created to review and suggest improvements for NYC buildings.

Areas of Focus:

  • Structural Strength

  • Fire Protection Measures

  • Emergency Evacuation

  • Mechanical Installations

Mayor Michael Bloomberg approved of the original plan, which was incorporated into NYC Codes through Local Law 26 in 2004.

One of the main requirements of the law was to make automatic sprinkler systems mandatory for all buildings 100 feet or taller. Considering the significant time and resources needed to get up to code, a deadline of 15 years was established.

That deadline is around the corner! Installation and approval of automatic sprinkler systems must be completed and a final project report filed by
July 1, 2019.
